We accept most vision insurance plans. Insurance falls into two categories (1) medical, and (2) vision.
Anytime a procedure is performed, such as removing metal from the eye, or diagnosing and/or treating an eye infection, disease, etc., this comes under the heading of MEDICAL procedures because they involve caring for the health of the eye, not vision correction. Also considered medical are testing for and treating glaucoma, cataracts, diabetes and many other eye conditions, all of which can be performed by Dr. Atkins. If your family doctor or an ophthalmologist can bill your medical insurance for treating an eye condition, we can as well. The most common medical insurances we accept are:
MED PLUS BLUE
BLUE CARE NETWORK
BLUE CROSS BLUE SHIELD
If you have a question as to whether or not we can bill your medical insurance, just give us a call with your insurance information and we will find out your coverage. Remember, this is medical not vision insurance.
Vision insurance is insurance that covers procedures that aid in the correction of your vision, such as a basic eye exam and then corrective appliances, such as glasses or contacts. Some plans, however, consider contacts a "luxury" and will not cover a contact lens exam or contact lens material. Some plans only cover the vision exam. Once again, if you have questions, call us with your information and we should be able to find out for you what your benefits are.
PLEASE NOTE: When you call for the price of a contact lens examination, the price quoted is the exam PLUS the fitting fee. Your insurance will probably cover most if not all of the exam fee, but will not cover the fitting fee. For example, a basic contact lens examination is $97, which is comprised of our exam price of $60 and the fitting fee of $37. When we say the insurance covers the exam fee, we are only referring to the exam fee portion and not the fitting fee.
Additionally, we ask that you present your insurance information at the time of the exam, if not before the exam. Because of the way different insurance plans work, notifying us after the exam has taken place will mean that you forfeit your insurance benefits entirely, or may only receive a portion of your benefits.
